About the artist

Gene Watson, sometimes called "The Singer's Singer" by his peers, broke through in 1975 with "Love in the Hot Afternoon" and followed it with a string of traditional country hits including "Paper Rosie" and "Fourteen Carat Mind." His voice is unmistakable, clear and expressive in a way that belongs to an older school of country music, and he has stayed true to that sound across more than fifty years of recording. His band takes its name from his 1979 hit "Farewell Party," a fitting title for a show built on the classics that made his name.
