Downtown Paris Christmas Tree Lighting

JJ Culbertson Fountain · Downtown Paris, TX

Free and open to everyone. Live holiday music and carols, Santa and Mrs. Claus, popcorn and hot chocolate around the fountain. Check the Paris Main Street events calendar for the full evening lineup.

The tree lighting is the moment Paris officially turns the season on. Around the JJ Culbertson fountain in the middle of the historic downtown square, the city strings the plaza with lights, local school groups and choirs take turns leading carols, and the evening runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with the tree itself lit at 6:00 PM. It is the kind of event built around the community standing together in the cold, cups of hot chocolate in hand, watching one tall tree do what a whole square of lights cannot do alone.

The square at night

Paris holds one of the best preserved historic downtown squares in Northeast Texas, and it wears the holidays well. Red brick storefronts line the plaza, the fountain anchors the center, and for the tree lighting the whole block gets dressed in garland and white lights. Santa and Mrs. Claus greet families, and the evening pairs well with an early dinner on the square before the light-up. If you time it for 5:00 PM you get the full arc of the evening: the last daylight on the brick, then the square glowing as night settles in.

The drive from the property

County Road 1070 to the Paris square is about 30 minutes up US-271, a straight shot through Titus and Lamar County farmland. A late-November evening is a good time for that drive, with the holiday decorations going up along the way. For anyone considering the property as a weekend retreat or full-time home, having Paris's tree lighting, holiday bazaar, and parade within half an hour is the kind of detail that makes rural living feel connected to the season instead of cut off from it.

Event details subject to change

Confirm the lighting time and any weather adjustments with the City of Paris or Paris Main Street before heading out. The tree lighting moves indoors to the Love Civic Center when weather calls for it.
